My connection with the show lies in its resemblance to The A-Tea resemblance that even the shows stars cite in the behind the scenes documentary. A group bands together to pull off cons to help the small man. But unlike the A-Team, the only common bond this group has is being a thief. & sometimes that bond doesnt appear like enough¦

Last year, I called Leverage the best new show of 2008 & theres nothing on the first season DVD set that proves me wrong

Elliott Spencer (Christian Kane) is the muscle, Sophie Deveraux (Gina Bellman) is the grifter who can play somebody, Alec Hardison is the specialist hacker & Parker (Beth Riesgraf) is the master thief with over a few screws loose.

The leader of the group is Nate Ford (Timothy Hutton), a former insurance investigator whose job was to bring down thieves & recover valuable property. But after the company he worked for allowed his son to die, Nate jumps at the chance to lead a group of thieves to seek revenge. But that act of revenge turns in to helping even more individuals who have suffered injustice by leading this unlikely team

Although the idea of being a team doesnt sound appealing at first, the group soon realizes that working together is the most fun theyve ever had. & youl have lots of fun watching them.

The cast is fantastic & the cons are so intricately planned, you cant help but get sucked in to try & find out what exactly is happening. The show has great visitor stars as well, including Kari Matchett (Invasion, 24) who appears late in the season as Nates ex-wife. & executive producer Dean Devlin (Independence Day) provides his sizable screen touch by directing several of the episodes.

The DVD provides an fascinating behind the scenes feature that shows us why the cons are so beautifully plannedthe show has a thief as a creative consultant. They also see the staging of a fight scene, & the moment when Devlin told the cast the show had been renewed. But the actual gem in the bonus features is Parker Cant Lose, a parody in which Riesgraf asks for Parker to be turned in to Sharker, a half-woman, half shark. And you can listen to commentary from the producers & writers on each of the 13 episodes.

If youre looking for the new A-Team, forget a sizable screen film. Check out the gang on âLeverage. Because as Nate says, sometimes bad guys make the best lovely guys. They definitely do in this case.

Leverage is returning with more episodes to finish out Season three: This Sunday, December 12 (9pm on TNT), is âThe Ho Ho Ho Job,â which finds the team taking on a shady mall owner (played by Dave Foley) & the return of the hacker âChaosâ (played by Wil Wheaton). I guess you could call it âLeverage Saves Christmas.â The following week will be their two-part season finale.

Weâve covered Leverage before because itâs a fun, geeky show, but of the most geeky characters on the show is Alec Hardison, played by Aldis Hodge â heâs the hacker & computer wizard, & can fundamentally get in to any computer method. In Season two, they had a showdown along with his nemesis, âChaos,â played by Wil Wheaton. Last week I got to participate in a phone press conference with Hodge & Wheaton, who talked about the show, their characters, & loving their jobs. (Sadly, I only got in query, but it was fun hearing their answers to everyoneâs query, & Wil Wheaton gave a pleasant shout-out to GeekDad, which is awesome.
